Biography
Prof. Alberto Ortiz is Chief of Nephrology at the Health Research Institute of the Jiménez Díaz Foundation (IIS-FJD UAM), Madrid, Spain and Professor of Medicine at the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM). He is Secretary of the European REnal and CArdiovascular Medicine (EURECA-m) working group of the European Renal Association – European Dialysis and Transplant Association, a member of European Uremic Toxins (EUTox), coordinator of the Spanish Renal Research Network (RETIC REDINREN), editorial board member at the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, Editor-in-Chief for Clinical Kidney Journal, ERA-EDTA and Spanish Society of Nephrology (SEN) Council Member and Innovation Coordinator at IIS-FJD.
Prof. Ortiz studied medicine at the Autonomous University of Madrid, specialised in nephrology at the Jiménez Díaz Foundation and was a post-doctoral research fellow at the University of Pennsylvania, PA, USA (1992–1994) before returning to the Jiménez Díaz Foundation as Senior Researcher and later as Staff Nephrologist. His current h-index ISI-WOK is 51. His research interests include the pathogenesis and treatment of acute kidney injury, diabetic nephropathy, proteinuric chronic kidney disease, vascular injury in kidney disease and Fabry disease.
